Mira leads a group storytelling activity

Last week, the Triple Exposure photography and film-making class was delighted to welcome Mira Dabit to the TYO Nablus center. Mira, a self-proclaimed “storyteller,” has worked with youth in the West Bank and Europe for years, giving workshops on both the art of Palestinian folkloric storytelling and on personal self-expression and narrative-building. Our film-making class has been working on short films based on stories written and acted by the children, but it takes a lot of practice and help to be able to develop complex storylines!

Mira and the kids had a great time getting to know each other, and in addition to a series of acting games and exercises, the class participated in a group-storytelling activity. Gradually, as the story continued around the circle, participants who had previously been too shy to contribute to the story ventured forth ideas until the story was truly a creation of all!
